Monday 7/27: Press x 1,1,1, Push Press x 1,1,1 Push Jerk x 1,1,1

Monday morning. I woke up thinking about a rest day. The prior week I had gone 6 days straight, and I was still sore after a Sunday off. But this workout got me up and at ‘em. The last time we had done the same was a month or two ago. At that session, I got a 165 strict press, and just missed 170. I wanted it bad. But not to be on that day.

That same day Melissa noted that I also had an issue with the Jerk, and instead was mostly push pressing when I was supposed to Jerk. I did manage to get 200 over my head though. So I worked with Melissa after and used some real light weights to reinforce the Jerk movement. Aha!

I also used a similar workout on my own at the beach gym in early July. My strict press was tired (need more rest days!!!) but I was practicing the Jerk with 135 – 185lbs and things were good. Quick, no pressing – just push and dip into a lockout. The best part though is that the power rack at the Bethany Beach World Gym is 10 feet in front of the rows of treadmills, bikes, etc.. You should have seen the faces of those people as I violently threw weight up. Real metal plates are noisy. I think people actually stopped reading Cosmo for a minute – and that was the guys!

So anyway, on the heels of those 2 workouts, I wanted to see if I could put it all together - a PR in the strict press, coupled with some solid leg drives to push big weights up.

But first, Jerry started posting video of Steck, Adam M and Katie with some huge lifts. Two CFOT PRs! Very inspiring.

Worked with Chad N. I never know where to start and always start too light and make jumps that are too small. By the time I go 170lbs on the bar for the strict press, it must have been set #7. People were moving on. Saw Big John strict press 185 and had thoughts in my head about one day doing that. But today I was after 170. Maybe you caught the video, but I got that 170 overhead with relative ease and was super pumped. I was as intense as I get. Could have done more. But there were 2 more lifts – plus, we were already an hour in. So we moved on. I set 2 more PRs, but for sure, I have more to go. I think I can strict press 175 or more and better technique will help me on the Jerk.

I note that Adam M had an 85lb jump from strict press to Jerk press. I only added 35lbs. That tells me that I have work to do on form. But it also tells me that one day – maybe soon – I will be on that board with a top Jerk press. Book it.

Shout out to: Melissa. I was a little disappointed that she was on vacation, because I thought that I had made some good progress, and she deserves a lot of credit.
