Not sure if anyone else is looking at new shoes since we are outta the blue room, but I am. Got a little caught off guard by my search for shoes when I found all these articles about POSE running. Oh dear! I just wanted to buy a good pair of shoes to cover the broad range of exercises that crossfitters do.
I haven't totally decided yet, but this one blog post seemed very helpful
Well, it sounds like we have a bunch of new things we are trying.
I am looking at either a pair of Vans or Puma's that I hope to pick up tomorrow, knowing that I will do most everything in them unless we start running more than a click in a WOD.
IMH (newbie) O, I think it would be really helpful if everyone in this thread could provide some detail comments on what they find with their new shoes...
How do they fit through the toe box? Heel? Arch?
How do they feel for stability when lifting?
Are you using them for runs? How does it work for you?
Anything else that is relevant?
No need to answer them all... just what you might be helpful to someone else.
Just reply to the post where you mentioned what you though you would try.
If found the shoes I wanted at DSW - a pair of Puma Alsten II's... a sprinter shoe that seemed to have enough support but good flexibility. Ha! but not in my size. Endless and Zappos are out too. So the hunt continues.
BTW, found this link on the history of weightlifting shoes. It is a bit cyclic/repetitive, but interesting none the less as it talks about lots of the mechanics of lifting and how styles have changed in both lifting and shoes.
I am waiting for a pair of Brooks Mach 9's to come from Endless today. They are a spikeless short distance shoe. Good low cut for weight lifting. We'll have to see how they fit.
Tried out my Brooks today and they performed about as I expected. They were excellent for wallball and squatting movements with their low cut. Felt like I really could keep my weight in my heels. Definitely felt light on the sprints too, although I was feeling my nag in my right hip on the third run. That could be as much from the push presses that preceded it. So long as our runs stay under 2K total and I keep getting the weight off, I think these shoes are fine for running.
Overall I think these are a go. They are just wide enough in the toebox, but I am only wearing a sock liner, not a sock. I have a few kinks to work out in the lacing to get a good fit around the low ankle cut. I noticed a little slipping in my heels, particularly on the extra work rows we did.
Got the right one dirty on top already.... climbing that rope this morning!
Nike has this new'ish Training line called "SPARQ." I'm sure some of you all might've seen some of the products. I've posted a link below of their "SPARQ" footwear - Men's:
