Jerry Hill's CrossFit Oldtown Alexandria VA

So, this posting is for Lanette. Last night she asked me if the Crossfit girls would like to get together for a night of healthy cooking. I told her I would ask.

When I asked her if men could come and eat the food, her reply was, "well, men and kids can come. Wait, that's usually the same thing. On second thought, no men and no kids".

Needless to say, I think the men should get retribution for the exlusion by doing something extra manly that night that is bound to get us in trouble, like drinking beer out of dirty glasses, while running through the streets of Old Town Alexandria.

Lanette,
I am bringing some hummus (pita for those who choose to spend their carb blocks) and the fixings to make a red pepper soup.... yellow peppers were either too green or too far gone....

I am bringing everything chopped and ready to cook... it should take about 20 mins to cook. I will bring an immersion blender to puree it.

Okay 3 sentences starting with I.... somewhere a third grade teacher (probably Katie) is cringing and doesn't know why

Lanette,

THANK YOU so much for the invitation into your lovely home. It was such a great idea. Nothing better on a Friday night than good people, delicious homemade food, and a warm kitchen. If I recall correctly, the menu for tonight was:

Wine
Roasted pepper soup (wonderful consistency closer to that of a bisque sans cream)
Hummus with chewy pita bread
Seaweed salad
Fresh spinach salad tossed with grapefruit and balsamic vinegar
Herb-roasted chicken breast (apparently the trick is to cook at 315F)
Steamed kale with a cashew-onion-soy dressing (I'm stealing this recipe)
California Asian-style chicken lettuce cups with stir-fried bean sprouts, toasted sesame seeds, and rice
Butternut squash soup with toasted pine nuts, Fuji apple, and mochi drizzled with maple syrup

We really should open up a bistro. Love fest over, Linda out.

Lanette,
Yes thank you for hosting us. It was good to meet your family and enjoy company and good food.
I was thrilled to learn that I like steamed kale even sans the yummy dressing. Anytime you can add a new food to your life that is green and leafy, it has to be a good thing!

Here's the recipe for the Yellow Pepper and Squash soup. Of course since the yellow peppers were poor, I subbed red peppers and PEELED zucchini.

I'm with Linda, but I think it should be a tapas bar... and price/sell the food in block portions so you can mix and match across a whole menu.
