An email from Tim:
Subject: You and your gym are inspirational
Jerry -
The wonders of the Internet - I live 3000 miles away from Alexandria,
yet your e-mails, links and videos are a regular inspiration to me.
As a middle-ager, I appreciate that your gym vids often feature an age
spectrum of cross fitters. At 53, I have never been in better shape. When
my peers ask me what I have been doing and I describe it, most recoil and
reply that they could never do what I do. That's what I thought about a
year and a half ago. So I forward the more open-minded ones some of your
vids for inspiration. The doors are starting to crack open. In time...
I have seen the exponential increases in interest and participation in
Crossfit since I started with it last year. I predict even bigger interest
in CF in the boomers like me who want to remain or become as active as they
have been in earlier days. This is the fountain of youth, and you are doing
a helluva job in getting the word out and helping a lot of people keep the
reaper at bay.
Who knew that a lot of things we had to do in PE back in the 60s and 70s
to get our "President's Council of Physical Fitness" cert would be a lot of
the same moves that today's CF'ers are utilizing to maintain youthful
energy, vigor and appearance?
Isn't it ironic that a lot of today's kids are getting little or no PE?
They never even get introduced to the concepts, effectiveness and the body
mechanics of simple body weight exercises and calisthenics like burpies and
wheelbarrows! Not to mention the fun part of it. Why should these simple,
effective things be reserved for people in organized sports? It's crazy.
If the government is going to legislate something, forget the fast food
industry. How about throwing out some of the regular testing in the schools
and fund and push regular exercise there? Then people will have the energy
to think clearly and order reasonably when someone asks, "you want fries
with that?"
Keep up your great work. You're all right. Many thanks.
Sincerely,
Tim Rogan
