I am not sure how many of you check out the main site, but everyone should check out this video of Kallista. She 14 years old and did every workout as Rx'd at the Games. Very inspirational.
I showed this video to someone at work and he asked me if lifting at that young of an age 'stunts growth'. I think that is an urban myth. I started lifting at 13, then again I am only 5'8". Any thoughts?
Since I did gymnastics for 20 yrs, I am very familiar with the whole "stunting your growth" thing. I think it's a myth, too. I have an ex-gymnast friend who just got her PhD in biomechanics and she actually studied the effects of the stresses of sports, gymnastics in particular, on the body (different than weight lifting I'm sure, but probably not by too much), and while there are a million different ways to do lasting damage to your body, stunting your growth isn't one of them. As long as you don't damaging your growth plates with an injury, you will be fine. Before a certain age, heavy lifting and high impact isn't recommended because the ends of your bones are still spongey, but I think it's like 6 or something. Anyway, that's my 2 cents...
